Eminem has Royal Blood of a Welsh King

We should probably start calling Eminem by his rather regal sounding real name: Marshall Bruce Mathers III.

That's because he's apparently related to 9th century Welsh King, Rhodri Mawr (the Great).
Records on a US genealogy site suggest he's Marshall III's 33rd great-grandfather.

By the time Rhodri Mawr died in 878 he ruled over almost all of Wales.

He didn't have eight number one records and 27 top 10 releases though, like his descendant Marshall Bruce Mathers III.

But he did have the reputation of a fierce warrior by regularly defending his territory against the Anglo-Saxons and the Danes.

Despite his military prowess he gained most of his territory through marriage.
We're not sure how much territory Eminem gained through his two marriages to Kim Scott.

Eminem may not rule most of Wales, but he has been called "King of Hip-Hop" by Rolling Stone, and until November 2015 he was the most streamed artist on Spotify, before Ed Sheeran overtook him.

The records show that Eminem may also be related to another esteemed Welsh ruler Hywel Dda (Hywel the Good), who is closely associated with traditional Welsh Law - known as the Laws of Hywel. These laws were progressive for the time - especially around women's rights. The original home of the National Assembly of Wales is named Tŷ Hywel (Hywel's House) in honour of him.
So Eminem is actually descended from Welsh royalty?

If the records on Geni are correct then yes, but in practice it's almost impossible to verify.

It's also worth noting that Rhodri Mawr lived 1200 years ago. He had at least four sons so it's highly likely there are a huge number of people who can claim to be related to him.

DNA Cymru, a show on Welsh-language TV channel S4C, showed that up to 18% of Welsh men alive today could be directly descended from just 10 men who lived less than 2000 years ago.
So if the records are incorrect, Marshall Bruce Mathers III might not have such a regal bloodline.
But then, as Eminem himself said "I am whatever you say I am".

23 Reasons Everyone Should Love Deadpool

1. He’s a master of breaking the fourth wall.

Deadpool’s most notorious trait is his tendency to break the fourth wall in his books. Not many comic book characters know they exist within a work of fiction, but Deadpool thrives on it. Every now and then he’ll drop a comment to the artist or writer working on his book, or reference the idea that he’s a fictional character like in the panel above, much to the confusion of whoever happens to be nearby.

2. He can be pretty heroic when he needs to be.

Deadpool can be a pretty complex character. His heroic deeds are often few and far between, but now and then he does something so selfless and touching that it cements his status as a hero. When Archangel was on the brink of death, Deadpool nursed him back to health by cutting off chunks of his own flesh. Inspiring.

3. He’s actually pretty clever.

Daredevil is a pretty perceptive guy, so pulling the wool over his eyes (ha.), even if it’s just for a moment, is actually kind of impressive. If Deadpool was a little more dastardly, or Daredevil was a little more not-a-good-guy, that brief moment would have been all it took to finish the fight.

4. He never takes himself too seriously.

Deadpool’s main power, his accelerated healing factor, gives him the ability to bounce back from any injury in no time. Oh, except for the cancer he had when his powers were given to him by the Weapon X program. His existing tumor spread across his whole body, leaving him horribly disfigured. If any other Marvel character came down with such a horrible ailment, it’d be a tragedy. For Deadpool, it’s just another punchline.

5. He also never takes anyone else too seriously.

Tony Stark’s alcoholism is no secret in the Marvel universe, but it’s still a taboo subject for most. Not so for Deadpool. In Deadpool #7, the character lampoons Tony Stark by recreating the memorable “Demon in a Bottle” storyline, including this moment where he throws on the Iron Man armor and proceeds to get knock-down drunk.

6. He gets along with everybody/nobody.

Everyone loves the class clown, and Deadpool is definitely the class clown of the Marvel universe. Unfortunately, doing that much ball-busting has made Deadpool his fair share of enemies too.

7. He’s a nerd.

He watched Star Trek! He’s just like you and me.

8. He doesn’t discriminate.

One of Deadpool’s most refreshing aspects is that he’s not really aligned with any particular faction in the Marvel universe. He’s not really a good guy, and he’s not really a bad guy, he’s just a guy who like to kill people and get paid while he does it. Some of his most interesting moments happen when he is forced to confront his heroism and loose ethics.

9. He’s made the most of his Liefeld pockets and pouches.

Deadpool was created by one of the industry’s most polarizing artists, Rob Liefeld. One of Liefeld’s signature touches is his excessive use of oversized pouches and shoulder pads on his characters. There has always been a lot of speculation about what Liefeld’s characters keep in all those pouches, and thanks to Daredevil’s heightened sense of smell, we finally have an answer.

10. He stands up for what he believes in.

Listen, this is an easy, obvious joke. But the important thing to take away from this is that Deadpool stands up for his beliefs, even if his beliefs are just that the Star Wars prequels sucked. Not many superheroes have such unwavering, unforgiving convictions.

11. He’s not easily intimidated.

I mean, it’s hard to be intimidated when you’ve got Spider-Man standing next to you, but Deadpool doesn’t let baddies looming over him get the better of him. No moment is too tense for a well-timed Steve Miller reference.

12. He even impresses his enemies.

First things first, that’s not actually Hawkeye. It’s Bullseye. Second thing to note, Bullseye never misses his targets. So it’s pretty impressive that Deadpool managed to evade one of Bullseye’s missiles. Just ask Bullseye.

13. He’s an obvious cosplaying choice.

Cosplaying as Deadpool gives you free license to go to a con and screw around with impunity. If you’re looking to be the life of the party at any cosplaying event, look no further than Deadpool.

14. He’s not afraid of anyone. Not even the Avengers.

Who else has the balls to steal multi-million dollar jets from Tony Stark?

15. He knows how to make the best of a bad situation.

When Deadpool accidentally set a live elephant on fire while trying to defeat the ghost of Teddy Roosevelt (you read that correctly), he did what anyone who accidentally set a live elephant on fire while trying to defeat the ghost of Teddy Roosevelt would do and made fun of the occasion.

16. He can find his way out of any bad situation.

Even if he has to shoot a civilian in the leg, Deadpool can wiggle his way out of any situation. When Daredevil had him by the short hairs, he used his gun and quick thinking to get away without Daredevil chasing after him. Genius.

17. His references (while childish) are really contemporary.

There’s been a lot of speculation about whether or not Deadpool is referencing the 4chan definition of traps in this clip from Ultimate Spider-Man, but seeing as it’s a show for kids, it’d be pretty edgy if it was.

18. There’s no enemy to big or powerful for him.

Not many heroes have gotten the better of Galactus, who actually eats entire planets just for fun, but after just a brief stint as Galactus’ herald, Deadpool got the better of the cosmic entity by just talking a ton. The Fantastic Four could barely even beat this dude, and Deadpool pretty much did it without throwing a punch.

19. His sense of humor is infectious.

Cable and Deadpool are old buddies, but Cable isn’t exactly known for his terrific sense of humor. When you’re from the post-apocalyptic future and you’re trying to save everyone you know and love from certain destruction, it’s hard to maintain a cheery outlook. Somehow, though, Deadpool brings out the best in Cable, and even manages to get him to crack a few jokes himself.

20. He doesn’t aim too high.

Most heroes waste their time on unobtainable goals such as world peace, but Deadpool keeps things simple. He knows what he likes, and he pursues those things. It’s just that simple.

21. He makes references we all get.

Deadpool is a relatively young character, especially in comparison to characters like the X-Men and Spider-Man, so it’s only natural that he makes references to things like viral videos of World of Warcraft. There aren’t many characters as relatable as Deadpool.

22. He can turn anything into a joke.

Most people would be mortified to come across an obvious homicide, but Deadpool just turns it into an opportunity to make jokes. For nobody in particular. Maybe he’s using his fourth-wall-breaking perception to make jokes for us, but it’s nice to think that he’s just taking a moment to quietly make jokes for just himself.

23. He’s not shallow.

Then again, it’s tough to be shallow when you look (and smell, if you believe Daredevil) like a horrifying living corpse.
